Cave “Karangil“

Location: village Shiroko Pole, East from Kardzhali

Origins: Was formed in limestone rocks, three floors with a depth 650 m. inhabited by several species of bats. The cave is the only in the world habitat of the spider.

Status:  Natural landmark.

Access: 200m from asphalt road.


Caves “The Snezhinkite“

Location: They are located under the middle age fortress Asara near the village of Dazhdovnitsa, Kardzhali municipality. There are 7 caves, the biggest of which is 110 m long and end near the fortress as a secret entrance.

Status: Natural landmark

Access: through Kardzhali towards the village of Enchets and Kardzhali dam lake, on the main road Haskovo - Kardzhali you take a right turn at the traffic police checkpoint near the village of Skalna Glava. At 1000 meters of asphalt road. Hiking trail starts from the cabin Borovitsa.


Cave “Tilkin“

Location: village Opalchentsi, Kardzhali municipality

Origins: formed by rock wreath, total length of 125 m. It was inhabited in ancient times. In it are the only habitats of the blind cave beetle in the world.

Status:  Natural landmark

Access: south from the town of Kardzhali, watch for the nameplate of village Opalchentsi. At 1200 m from asphalt road.


Cave “Karabekirova“

Location: village of Gluhar, Kardzhali municipality
Its formed on a rock wreath above the river Varbitsa. The cave was inhabited by cave men in the neolith.

Status: Natural landmark

Access: South from the town of Kardzhali, watch for the name plate of village Gluhar. At 700 m from asphalt road.


Cave “Brazhlyanina“

Location: village Visoka Polyana, Kardzhali municipality.
Located near the fortress of Hissar. Inhabited by bats, which are protected species.

Status: Natural landmark

Access: At 1500 m from asphalt road.


Cave “Hladilnika”

Location: Natural phenomenon "The Fridge" is located in the village Lyubino, municipality of Ardino between Davidkovska and Arda rivers.

Description: A karst cave form, its name comes from the extremely low temperatures even in the hottest summer months.

Status: Declared for natural landmark in 1978.

Access: It is reached by car on main road Kardzhali - Ardino, as at the village Kobilyane turn north to the villages Borovitsa and Lyubino. At 1300 meters from asphalt road. There are walking trails starting at the hut Mlechino. Nearby are the Devil's Bridge and the remains of the fortress Krivus.

Caves Stremski labirinti (Inicler caves)

Location: It’s 2 km before the village of Stremtsi if you travel from Kardzhali.

Origins: There are well preserved galleries of ancient gold mine from the time of the Thracians. Even today, signs of organized mining could be seen. The area above the entrances to several vertical mine workings, which are believed to have served as vents (ventilation). The total length of the galleries is about 301 meters by the end with small lake. Local people believe that water treated infertile cows. The galleries resemble a maze, hence their name.

Status: Natural landmark

Access: By car from the city of Kardzhali toward the village of Stremtsi. At 300 m from the asphalt road. Walking is possible from the villages of Shiroka Poliana, Gorna Krepost, Tri Mogili.
